The Franciscan Earth Literacy Center has teamed up with Great Lakes Permaculture to provide a two hour seminar on “Forest Farming in Northwest Ohio.” Vince Kirchner, the owner of Great Lakes Permaculture will be presenting from 10:00 AM to noon on Saturday 4/20/2013. Vince is a certified Permaculture Designer and Teacher, also an OSU Extension Master Gardener. Topics to be covered will include, what constitutes a forest, what is appropriate to grow in Northwest Ohio, propagation techniques, yields and cost benefits, food products including mushrooms, medicinal plants, also alternative agricultural products.

Vince has been involved in design for over 30 years; his effort the past years has been to assist the people of Northwest Ohio with their changing weather patterns, along with reducing cost pressure by producing healthy agricultural products that are environmentally regenerative and economically sound. His permaculture studies have spanned several years, with projects located in several states. A permaculture designer certificate course is planned for later this year.

The Franciscan Earth Literacy Center is no stranger to environmental issues and training, they have a zero energy straw bales house project, installed solar and windmill power, an organic farm and market, and nature walking trails to name but a few of the projects that have benefited the local residents of Tiffin. A goodwill offering will be taken for the FELC, but as always the training is free and open to the general public.
